MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Currently holding Payroll Clerk title or be eligible to be reached as a Payroll Clerk on the Monroe County Civil Service Payroll Clerk eligibility list
Good knowledge of office practices, procedures, and equipment; good knowledge of payroll and other computer database systems and procedures; good knowledge of payroll procedures; good oral communication skills; mathematical skills; word processing skills; ability to use a calculator; ability to make accurate arithmetic computations; ability to interpret written materials; ability to work independently; accuracy; good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
This is a specialized clerical position involving the review of time cards/time sheets and preparation of payrolls.
Employees prepare and/or process payroll manually and on a computer.
The employee reports directly to and works under the general supervision of a higher-level staff member.
Supervision is not a responsibility of this class.
Does related work as required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepares payroll data for computer.
Reviews all time cards/time sheets, including automated time keeping system.
Prepares forms for direct salary deposit.
Prepares Payroll Check Reconciliation Spread Sheet.
Maintains department files and records.
Records and maintains records of employee absences.
Compiles data for State Office of Unemployment Insurance.
Compiles data for State Employee System.
Processes compensation claims, injury, and medical reports with respective agencies.
Establishes medical, dental, and retirement benefits for new employees.
Processes health and life insurance billings, enrollments, and deletions.
Processes and maintains payroll deductions.
Handles and maintains workers' compensation reports and correspondence.
Monitors Retirement List on payment of monthly medical insurance bills.
Processes paychecks for distribution and mailing.
Requests checks and pays all payroll deductions.
Processes retiring/separating employees and related payments due.
Prepares special reports for Assistant Superintendent for Business as requested.
Performs various related office duties as assigned.

Monday - Friday

Salary:
Minimum $18.
20/hour, commensurate with experience

Performance in this position will be evaluated by the Assistant Superintendent for Business.
